Motor neuron disease (MND)  was not a disease that I had been particularly aware of until relatively recently when I learnt that several colleagues across the profession were affected. MND prevents messages from the motor neurones from reaching the muscles. This leads the muscles to weaken, stiffen and waste, which can affect how people walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. Some people also get changes to their thinking and behaviour. MND is life-shortening and there is no cure. Research is desperately needed to help support those already affected by the disease and to fund research to find a cure.
